For 2000 years, since the destruction of the Second Temple, Jews began to pray while facing Jerusalem. This meant that for the Western Diaspora, Jews throughout the centuries would face Eastward. A tradition developed in Europe in the middle ages to decorate the Eastern of the home or synagogue with art to direct one torards Jerusalem for times of prayer. Mizrach, (East), became a synomym for Jerusalem and prayer. In this piece, the term, Mizrach is written in traditional medeivel Hebrew script in copper and the verse from Psalms border the artwork, "'מִמִּזְרַח שֶׁמֶשׁ עַד מְבוֹאוֹ מְהֻלָּל שֵׁם ה" "From the East of the rizing sun, until its setting, praised be The Name of The Lord". Psalms 119 : 3
This piece is suitable for any wall and makes a perfect house warming, wedding, or Bar/Bat Mitzvah gift.
